part of the problem of peer pressure is the perceived position of the peer
if i were to call out some of my conservative friends for their behavior i would be derided for not calling out a liberal
if i call out a liberal, then i get the olde..... neener, neener, neener response.. " well they did it first"
IE: who am i to be making judgements..... i have often told posters that i thought they were beyond the pale.... it had zero effect.. or.. it had the effect of a response from across the aisle
i feel that the best ( as in most effective ) response to some of those childish posts was NO RESPONSE..
and yet.... you could tune in , day after day.... same thread.. same dumb thing..... same three or four people taking on the same three or four adversaries.... and some of these are pretty intelligent people....
how do you have a blanket party in cyberspace ? i saw this same stupid behavior in the old FredL / Fuscoe flame wars... how stupid were those things ?.. yet , we all know the participants were very smart people
and those were in discussions where not everyone had a position
in the current case it was about political leanings..... and everyone had a dog in that fight
i think good active mods and more none-response might be the key
