This just seen in the Tavern Access thread. Interesting look at the problem.

Mods:
I sincerely do hope that you will try to realize the negative impact all this drama has on valuable DIY/lurker types.
I agree with many of the pros in here that the magazine does cater to my type ... otherwise I wouldn't understand it and wouldn't subscribe to it. Of course this isn't news to you. However, your recent actions, and these poster-initiated aftershocks, are visible to everyone here. You haven't ticked-off just a few guys whose whines you can muffle. Lurkers are just that ... normally. They won't whine about this. BUT THEY SEE IT. And they are disappointed I promise you this hurts everybody. Quit being stingy with the tavern and all of this will go away. Wasn't that the whole purpose of the tavern to begin with? Wasn't it intended to keep valuable subscriber-lurkers from seeing off-topic chatter that might scare them off. What did you think would happen when you closed the tavern to some/most/all (whatever, I don't even care to go in, its just the principle of the matter)?
It sounds to me like there are many pros who hang out here, but don't even subscribe to your mag. You seem to have reasoned then that running them off is ok, but wow that's stupid. Do you not see that their presence here is a blessing to your goal of targeting DIY types? Those guys and gals could easily migrate somewhere else, but at one time you had a good thing going, the best thing actually, and they're hanging on to the hope that you might come to your senses and revive it.
Wake up. Let these folks back in the tavern, so they'll hang around and so that valuable DIV-subscribers (yes, like me) can go back to lurking and silently skimming as much as we can from the pros in the on-topic areas.
On that note and before the mods kill my latest handle, to the pros: Thanks.
