Big Plans .... Labor Day Weekend
      #12664 - Sun Aug 30 2009 10:10 PM

who's doing what?

Just booked our favorite campsite at the favorite campground. Gonna be camping over the long weekend.

I wanted to try another place ... kinda got hooked on actually catching fish when in Fla ... wanted to camp at a bigger lake. But Cath and Corey out voted me. Back to the little lake where the kids know the campground by heart.

None of the easily accessable fishing spots are good fishing spots ... but ... happy wife and kids camping makes for a happier Dad camping.

Gonna be some chilly nights ... gotta bring enough cash for lotsa firewood and remember to bring the cordless sawzaw with extra blades and battery. Ya can't cut down a tree but you can cut up a downed tree.

Jeff

You telling me summer is over? Dam it went fast!
Were still working on the summer long landscaping project at the house in the Mts. Just got 3 XXL loads of top soil & a load of 3/4 rock. Going to be slave laborer a few days, but will make sure we pay ourself with some up scale Beer (in frosted mugs)& Red Meat cooked on the grill, with summer Farmers Market fresh Veggies!
At least 6hrs of Trout fishing early or late in the day.A little bit of Bike riding (pedal power)to burn off the fore mentioned. Think will pull the Sat- Tue. shift so we don't have to deal with the traffic.
Photos to follow if the fish R biting!

I may hit the local links with a bud, or 2, (either way you take that it works ), but mainly just gonna chill and flip off the problems.

Of course we'll do the grillin' thing! Ain't decided just what yet, but it will be big and meaty!

made my way to Omaha Steaks yesterday.

Went on with coupons, spent around $100 and walked out with around $300 list price of meat!

Omaha Steaks makes camping almost too easy.

Vaccuum sealed, individual pieces ... just toss them into the cooler and they stay nice, cool and dry ... hell ... they float of the ice melts!

We'll have steaked one night ... maybe filet mignon ... and chicken the next ... I love their chicken. Always looks half the size it really is in the package. Cooks up great.

Omlettes for breakfast ... coupla slices of ham to go with ... grilled cheese for lunch ... and some tasty meat for dinner ... with a can of veggies as a side.

Best investment ever was the coleman stove ... eat when yer hungey ... not when the fire turns to hot coals. The fire is purely decorative!

Returned from our week camping this past Tuesday. We'll be home this weekend-gardening, eating and hopefully whack'n the little white ball.

Kelly's Island was windy, chilly and luckily just a bit sunny. Our side was the windward several days. That means a trip across the island to kick young rear on the cornhole boards at the brewery and just to keep the touch-horseshoes at the winery.

We eat very well when camping-put on some pounds for sure.
The Saturday nite walleye fry is the highpoint.

Have a good time this weekend.

Corey threw a fit today on his second day of Second Grade ... so I've already mentally cancelled the camping trip.

We'll see how Dad feels about things tomorrow. At the moment ... I envision a nice long weekend with a little boy sitting in his room on lock down 23.5 hours a day.

Already told Cath plan some fun stuff for her and Hannah ... as I'm planning lotsa unfun stuff for me and Corey!

Bedtime all next week has already been moved up from 8pm with a little TV ... to 6:30 / no tv / no bedtime snack.

I'm in a great mood now to go get ready to meet with a potential customer about some revisions and pricing!

damn kids ...

Jeff

Camped.

Got back today. Told the boy I was gonna cancel, but he was grounded all "next week" ... which ... starts today.

His regular bedtime is 8pm with 15 minutes of TV time up stairs. This week ... 6:30 with no TV. Books are allowed and encouraged. Light's low ... then out at 8 sharp.

Tonight ... he went up OK ... then had about an hour of sobbing. Hopefully it's a lesson learned. Also told him ... "work with me" ... and Wed is back to karate night so he'll be in class at 6:30 ... and by Fri ... if all goes well ... he's back on a nornal schedule ... which for him ... means staying up late and sleeping downstairs by himself. He loves that. So we'll see.

Anyways ... got to the camp site on Sat afternoon. Played then had a roaring campfire Sat Nite. Sun got up, omlettes ... then took the kayaks out. Circled the lake, beached ourselves on the beach ... kids hit the playground .... then headed back. Cath fits Hannah in her kayak, and mine is an Old Town Dirigo 140 ... 14ft kayak ... extra big cockpit with a removable plastic "hump" ... they call it a seat ... for kids up to 60 lbs.

So Corey can squeeze into the front of mine. On the way back I decided to see how far down a little feeder stream we could make it ... pretty far before I had to turn around in about 6" of water.

Earlier I decided to see if we could "fit" into the area of a huge fallen tree that's been there for years .... got in ... just couldn't make it across the last semi-sunken branch ... had to paddle the zig-zag path we'd taken to get stuck ... backwards. A 14 ft're doesn't turn on a dime ... or a quarter. But we made it back(wards) out.

Had another great night aroudn the fire ring, woke up around 5 to the pouring rain. Rolled over and we all slept in as it rained all morning. Everything was wet ... but it slowed down to a light drizzle around 11am so we packed up and hit the road.

Kayaks had good size puddles in them ... and seeing as how we pack alot of sh!t into the kayaks ... even being wrapped in garbage bags didn't keep everything day. Had a bit of laudry to do when we got home.

Coupla weeks from now if the big G-20 Summit. Gonna screw up the whole city. City schools are closed ... I made the executive decision we're breaking the tent out at l;east one more weekend ... then!

Then ... Oct/ Nov ... wait for the chill to set in ... then look for that cabin. Moraine St Park doesn't have tent camping but does have cabins ... thinking we'll head the and rent a pontoon boat ... get the Muskie Hunting started. Catching those Baracuda got me thinking about Muskie again!

Got the boy out on his own again into the middle of the little lake for a quick kayak trip. Thinking by next year we'll have to get Cath an upgrade and give him hers. He should be able to make a good go of it by next spring.

Damn kid, 7, throws a fit about going to second grade ... but will paddle solo out to the middle of a lake. Drives me nuts! Sometimes he's 4 ... sometimes he's 14. Rarely 7.

Jeff
