Back in my pre-family days, once a year we'd gather at someone's house and set off on a walking bar tour. It was downtown Allentown, PA, so there were lot's of bars. 20 minutes at each, then move on. Caught about 15 on a good night. Never had a bar owner turn us down be/c we had been to another bar. Never had a bar owner excoriate us be/c we were headed to another bar after his. Hope that spirit is alive here--best of luck.
OK, so there was one turndown. Truth. A lesbian bar wouldn't let us in be/c they thought we were there as a college prank. Paranoia. Geez, they were two blocks from the prior bar, and two blocks from the next bar, and four blocks was too far without a drink. We had no other motives--just beer. They seemed happier behind closed doors. (That's not a metaphor for anything.)
So, for the next 20 minutes, drinks are on me...

cloud.. last time i did that was one of my brother's weddings..the town had 4 bars then..
the Surf, Manny's Tavern (the bucket of blood ), the Narragansett, & the Holy Ghost Hall (Portuguese American Club )....so , anyways we had to go around twice..
today we have 7.. course i don't count the yacht club either time since that's member's only and the membership is a lot more that the one dollar for the PAC....
BTW: one of our community chorus do's was at the PAC.. so we were selling tickets.. only things ain't like they used to be...lot's of people wanted to know when Jamestown got a Performing Arts Center (PAC )....hmmmmmmmm

I think our little tradition stopped the year some bright folks decided that we were ignoring our country friends and bars. Well of course you can't walk from one to the other, so that meant a driving bar tour. I don't recall that being an especially good idea.

Edinburgh. Back in the late 70's, 80's, and early 90's some of us would meet as a gang at Mather's Bar at the west end of Princes Street at about 7 pm of a Friday night, which came after a wee freeform 5 pm taster at the nearest drinking den after work with your workmates---remember Friday is called POETS day in the UK, the acronym for Piss Off Early, Tomorrow's Saturday. From there drop into the Engine Room, which would be quiet as it was really a late night pick up joint.
After we'd knocked back about three or four pints, it was time for some serious drinking. Rose Street was just a two minute stagger from the Engine Room, and Rose Street contains about 20 bars in less than a mile. Stop off at every important one for a pint. The importance of a visit to any particular bar depended on all sorts of factors, none of which made any sense to anyone really. But we always had to make a wee detour to the pit known as the Oxford Bar a couple of streets over, and skull a couple of beers there, and to enjoy the impromptu live Celtic music session of fiddles, guitars, flutes, whistles, etc., or not, as the case may hve been. Get to the end of Rose Street at the wine bar, or even better the Cafe Royale on Register Street. Turn around, and work your way back to the Engine Room near Rose Street, which by 1:30 am would be hoochin'.
Frankly, I've no idea how we did it and still got up on Saturday to play rugby. I swear that nowadays I could only make the trip one way. Slainte, RJ.

And I swear that nowadays I could probably be a designated driver! A bit outta bar-hopping shape.
