Sgian, I don't have a european saw but I do have a SCMI planer as well as wide belt sander, they both reek of quality. Both pieces display the best of workmanship and materials, I would certainly buy a european saw but so far have not found a "cabintmakers saw" on the order of the powermatic or general, why is that. In my shop I have both the powermatic and general, they are the most used tools I own. I have looked at the sliding saws made overseas but they all seem to big and awkward compared to a US style table saw. Maybe it's all in what you are used to. Since you are from the other side of the pond maybe you can answer the question, does anyone over there make anything that resembles the US type table saw?

Armin, There are machines rather similar to US style contractors or cabinet saws. Record sell the RSTS315E for ?160. It?s a bit like a low quality contractors saw with an open underframe and aluminium top with a 1.6KW induction motor. Lutz of Germany make a saw closely akin to a contractors saw too with a 2.5 HP motor and a wee sliding table hanging off the left hand edge with a right wing extension. It will cut 80 mm (3?+) deep and costs ?320, and again has a cast aluminium top. Lutz also sell a ?cabinet? saw for ?433, and this too has a small sliding table. My guess is the sliding table on both these Lutz products has a capacity of about 650 mm or about 26?. None of these saws could be said to be sophisticated, but there again the Craftsman saw isn?t up to much either, and the Jet or Delta contractors saws are only a step or two better. To get into cast iron tops with the types of saws I?ve described, you?d need to change brand and pay a bit more. These three examples illustrate that economically made and priced machines are available in the Europe, and it?s not all good or sophisticated engineering with matching prices via names such as Felder, Hammer, Rojek, SCMI, Startrite, knapp, Robland, etc.. Currently about $1-46 or $1-50 will buy ?1 sterling. Sory for the slow reply. I?ve had some trouble logging in,?.er,???I couldn?t for a wee while. Slainte, RJ.

Out of luck. [Re: Mistah_T]

Only trouble with that proposition Mistah T is that Inca are about to stop selling their machines in the US, and Garrett Wade is clearing out their warehouse of existing stock. Slainte, RJ.

Since butchers are workers and I butcher wood, does that make me a woodworker?
