Luka,
This is not a site specific question but You ARE the man so...
My monitor gets all jittery when I first turn on the computer in the am.
By the time I am done with my coffee all is fine. But it seems to get a little worse every time.
once the screen ended up off-center a bit(insert joke here), so i corrected with the monitor controls. evervything remained fine untill the next day, when every was shifted back over.
Does ths sound like a hardware or a software problem?
Thanx in advance
BTW Hows everything? If you want I can throw some choice expletives in so you can "gavel" my post!
Oh I forgot I 'm supposed to write my questions on the back of a twenty.
Here you go!
Live good!

I would say it's a hardware problem.
If your monitor has a degauss button, use it. Every time you start up.
If it is too old to have a degauss button, get ready to buy a new monitor.

That is a possibility, but I think it is more likely the monitor itself.
The video card is all circuitry. It tends to work or not work. very few in-betweens.
The monitor is more than just the circuitry. It is the most likely of the two, to have in-between or intermittant problems. Plus, you said the problem seems to clear up after things have warmed up. That is a more clear indication that it is the monitor itself.
One thing you can do is to open up the computer and make sure the video card is seated correctly.

"My monitor gets all jittery when I first turn on the computer in the am. By the time I am done with my coffee all is fine"
The last part is the real clue - Are other things all jittery before you finish your coffee?
If yes, well, I can relate to that. Just finish your coffee before turing on your computer.

When I, too, read T's post, my first thought was man, share your coffee with the monitor, whaddya think those slots in the back are for, heat dissapation? Yeah...big problem
Now look, here's a real prob...sometimes my monitor comes on regular, sometimes it comes on darker, 'n stays that way, no matter how I monkey with the controls...am I just gaussed? This is serious, not like the guy with the moustach on his head, and where is this so called DE-gaussing button...do I HAVE to open up the monitor)...heart be still...

You're on a mac.
I think that says it all.

Now that I have yanked your chain....
There should be a degauss button somewhere on the front of the monitor. Maybe it's behind a little flap that you have to open.
Or maybe Macs don't have one...
But the degauss button will probably not do anything for the problem of the thing coming on dark, and staying that way.
If the monitor is coming on dark sometimes and staying that way, then I really think you should be setting some money aside to get a new monitor. You don't want this one to come on totaly black, (Kinda like waking up dead.), and stay that way, and catch you by surprise. Maybe get a new one now, and put the old one in storage for a backup in case the new one kakks out.
When it comes on dark, and stays that way... have you tried rebooting the computer. Or turning the power off to just the monitor, and leaving it off for a minute or so, then turning it back on ?

Luke (a)
It seems we have lost young bucksnort(terrible name for a jedi) to the dark side!
He was seduced by the powers of Darth Mac.
There is no helping him now he must help himself.
Obi won Gates has foreseen this and has put togethher an army of PC clones that will help us restore order in the universe.
May the force be with you young Padowan.

Turn off your computer Hans.
Reach out with your feelings.
feel the force flowing thru you
Put on your blast helmet and head-butt your monitor.
If that doesn't work there is always your good old fashion blaster!!!
Maybe you should let Chewy drive?

Now, Mr. Pitier of Fools, you do know what happens to that army of clones, don't you? Senator Gates gets himself declared emperor, reveals himself as Darth DOS, and uses all those clones to terrorize the galaxy! Only Luke MacUser and his faithful droid OSX-10.2 will be able to save us from the unthinking dominion of the Stupid Side of the Force...
