What kind of screwdriver should I buy? Left hand or right hand?

Depends on whether you're tightening or loosening the screw....
Actually, though, as a lefty, I find a bunch of tools are really awkward for me. For most, the safety switch is on the wrong side. I like my yellow angle grinder be/c the safety is in the middle and the handle position can be changed.

Wait a minute, don't you drill a carefully sized pilot hole, start the screw with a half turn and then whack it real hard with a hammer?

I only use pilot holes in hard wood
like the phillips and roberts head screws the best cause when u hit the screwdriver with a drill hammer it doesn't slip off the head so easy. I always use the drill hammer cause u want to use the right tool

Well, isn't that what a screwdriver is for? To get the screw out after you've whacked it into the wrong place? Left hand only is needed from what I can tell. Slainte, RJ.

I was once told by an old carpenter that the only reason there is a slot in a screw is in case you made a mistake & had to take it out.

In Maine we used to call a hammer a french screwdriver!
All tools are hammers except chisels and they're screwdrivers.
we also used to call screws spiral shank nails.
