Thanks.......Jim Jr. learned more about Jim Sr. in these last 2 years then he had known about his father all of his life........That's what happens when son becomes his father's keeper......
Jim Sr. landed on Normandy and helped build bridges through Belgium....Oh, if we had only known all of the stories.......Now Jim jr. does...........
Treat your children well...........

Carole, sorry to hear about your loss, a toast in his honor is in order. And here is another toast to the generation that went all out to give us the life we have today. It's a shame that some of the stories you mention have not been documented, everyone's life has a story worth telling.
My mother who passed away in 81 led the most colorful life of anyone I knew. A small part of which was spending 6 years in the Amazons working as a missionary and teaching in a school during the early 30. Fortunately for me she was a great story teller and I was able to pass some of it on to my families children.
Sorry to ramble on, here's all the best to you and the family.

Thank you, Armin.......These stories only started coming out when his father came home from the nursing home about a year and a half ago........He watched the History Channel constantly and would add his own anecdotes while watching.......He worked for a company here in Cleveland that built airplane parts.......He could name every airplane built and loved going to the Air Show yearly..........
He was also one of the quietest men I knew(my husband is just as quiet).......Perhaps that is why he never related those stories.......

Thanks, Cal and Armin......
Today is a little better......Jim(DH) pre-paid for this father's funeral about a year and a half ago.......He was in the nursing home and we didn't know how long he would have to stay.....Our lawyer recommended that we do that then in case we had to use all of his monies for his long term care.......It sure helped......When you have to do these things when you're in shock, it's not a good time to make decisions........At first, husband felt terrible about it, but he now knows this was the right decision.......
Husband found a photograph he took of his father at the Air Show 2 years ago standing in front of a P51 Mustang......He helped build some of the parts..........It is a beautiful picture and Jim had prints made for his brothers and sisters.......Husband is a photographer and takes gorgeous photographs(don't ever call them pictures).....
Again, thanks and your thoughts are appreciated.......
Carole.
