To have a good solar powered water heating system, you first have to have the 'solar' part...

Our liquid sunshine does nothing to heat up the water in such a system...

For the shower, I am thinking of using a ball valve, after the mixing valve.

The way it would work is to put a spring on the handle of the ball valve. Use a spring that is strong enough to pull the valve, but not much stronger.

Then put a cable on the other side of the handle. Run that cable to a board at your feet.

Want water, step on the board. Step off the board to let the spring pull the valve back shut again.

Leaves both hands free for lathering, and/or rinse assist.

Put a loop in the cable at some convenient point, and a peg in the wall, to pull that loop over, should you want to just turn the water on and leave it on.

And I'd suggest that you pull those ornamental lights down, before you take a shower there. LOL

I'll probably just look for a used natural gas water heater, and run that with propane. (The natural gas jets are smaller. Saves some, on propane. LOL)

Yo pb,

Don't look at today, don't look at tomorrow - that "looooong" term goal - which job will get you closer to it?

Well I'm thinking that the Zappos job is the better ticket.
From those I know that already work there, I should be able to have way more opportunity for advancement, both technically and up the corporate ladder. And IIRC they actually start putting $ in your 401K the 1st day.

I just walked in the door from an interview that I went to for the plumbing company. Not much room for advancement. But compared to most plumbing outfits, this one is one of the bigger ones, with some of the best benefits. But you gotta park 2 blocks away! The company offers no parking.

All in all if my interview tomorrow with Zappos works out, I'll be taking it. But there I'm competing with 8 others.

Anyway I should know alot more tomorrow!

We'll be sure to be saying our prayers for you.

And hey, on the bright side, Angelina Jolie has invited me to join facebook !

.....About 65 times since last night. And from the same number of originating emails. LOL

Maybe I can get her to give you an invite, as well.

You're lucky! I get a bunch of "sloars" that invite me to be their friends alot. They always got cleavage shots on their profile, and sometimes other tempting pics,... but I just put them on ignore.

Grant was complaining about that too on FB awhile back.

I got an email this morning from some sort of uber online pharmacy.

They said that the majority of men have a short penis problem.

I started to feel bad for everyone, but then it occurred to me... If it is the majority of men, wouldn't that mean they all have average penises ?

I asked Mrs. Mule about me trying some of that pharmacy stuff out - she said not until I'm much older, something about keepin' her up half the night as it is.

Hmmm....that's something else I do in my sleep too....didn't realize that. Hope I enjoyed it!

It's been along time since I've lived up in yer neck of the country. And I'm not and expert when it comes to solar stuff, but you don't necessarily have to have direct sunlight for a solar heater to work. Granted it won't heat water all the time, but the idea is to reduce energy costs.

If you only have, say 100 days a year of non rain days, you should cut your water heating costs buy maybe 20%.

On the other side, I knew a guy several years ago that had a propane water heater just for his shower, and only used the pilot flame to heat it. He claimed it worked just fine.

Then there is the plumber_bob idea that would use a small cement lined furnace, (probably smaller than a 5 gallon bucket), powered by free used oil, to heat the water.
