New Auction Today-Nov.2008
      #10658 - Wed Nov 12 2008 09:32 PM

It's been suggested that we hold an auction since there's some traffic here of late.

Well, sounds like a good idea. The proceeds go to Quittintime if you're not familiar with the pitch.

We use them to keep this thing online and perhaps improve a thing or two. To that end, let's start the bidding.

Since there's new folks here that may not know the fine pts, here's one. I bid on occasion. I don't try to run up the bid, I really want the stuff. I'll usually get it started, maybe give it a push here or there to hold interest. If I get the winning bid (rare) it's ok cuz I'll be paying the bills here anyway. At any rate, I don't think I've won one yet-it's been a while and the mind's going.

I'll be the first- 10 dollars

Oh, you want to know what you're bidding on? Well, at this time I can't tell you. Both Bosshog and Notchman have made an offer of some goods-exactly what I cannot say at this time. So, for starters, that's what we're bidding on. SOMETHING>

The auction deadline is currently openended. But let's say we take this thing to............NOON-November 18th.

Alright man, you picked up the jargon at that GE auction.

Might just have to put you in charge of this hear one while I'm In Cog Neeto after the 18th.

Like the man says-we got 11.00..............

do we hear 12?

Screw 12-lets get 15 easy for something you can't see.

Rez, reminds me of the box the Auctioneer holds up.

Box of what?.............beats me, there's something in there.

We could make it a metaphorical box of metaphors...

Alright, throw that in there too.

We've got a box. Luka threw in some metaphors. There's other stuff in the box but what we're not sure.

We've got 11 bucks bid.

Where's your sense of adventure?

Well, I did promise I would come up with something. So here ya go.

We have a Craftsman brand rabbet plane for your bidding pleasure. There is a depth stop on the right side. But the fence that sets the width is missing.

You can see the craftsnam logo on the closeup picture. The number on the blade is 619.3730. I have no idea what it means.

Before I send it off, I'll sharpen the blade on my Tormek grinder. You should be able to shave with it.

I will throw in free shipping to card carrying members of the Republican party. Liberals, democrats, and Splintergroupie will pay actual shipping charges plus a $20 handling fee.

(BTW - I was kiding about the shipping BS, just in case any of you were wondering)

It's always been my rule to top Calvin's bid - so $15 it is.

AND I am a liberal Democrat and will be happy to bid on some poor mis-informed republican's contributions.

Alright Ron! Now we're talking! Thank You!!

Folks here is part of what's in the box. A Craftsman Rabbit Plane from Illinois.

Included of course is the metaphors.

And we haven't heard back from Notchman.

Who knows what else we'll find in the box.

We've got 15.00 from TLE-thanks Terry!

I don't want to be a curmudgeon but............

that is a good start!

I know one of you can do better-how's about 20?

Then the chef uses that tool.

20 bucks from that generous republican down in the delta.

Well, 20 bucks from the republican at any rate.

I don't want to turn this into a political duel, but what the heck.

I'm waiting to hear from a democrat that has can be liberal with some change.

But greedy bastard that I am-I'll hear from anybody that can beat 20 bucks.

It would be an embarassment to let that fine antique, the load of metaphors and where the hecks Notchman with the info on those mags?

Do I hear 25?

Certainly did Ron, thanks for setting me straight.

We have a 25.00 bid the box with the stuff in it.

And this from another republican, so it would appear there's no party line in this auction.

Since we have 25.00, why not we go higher?

Da da da-da!

Thanks Terry, I knew we had some broad thinking individuals in here.

We've got 30 samolians on bid for a box.

The box thus far contains a pristine though slightly used Craftsman Rabbit Plane, a bunch of Metaphors (for what I have no idea) and potentially some older FHB mags-a real collectors item.

Bidding continues, as does the contents of this box. Anyone have anything of reasonable value to add to the booty?

We've got 30.00, who'll sweeten the deal?

I'm thinking those metaphors alone, should raise the price.

Since they don't add anything to the shipping costs...

Bring it on!

We've got a firm independent bid of 35.00!

You going to let that stand or maybe bump it up even more?

And here's an interesting thought. Anyone have anything of value (we've got plenty of metaphors) to throw in that box? I'll be taking more bids and of course more goods to fill that box up.

Here we go, onward and upward.

Any word on those FHB mags?

NEW BOX NEW BOX NEW BOX NEW BOX NEW BOX NEW BOX

THANK YOU!

So, now the pot is sweetened just a tad.

We've got a fine craftsman rabbit plane, those darn metaphors and now this fine FATMAX level...........with case.

I should probably split these up and hope for some sizable bids on each..........but that wasn't the deal. I know, I know, it is a pity to limit what we get for the metaphors, but what the hell-I'm in a festive mood-haven't checked the other thread yet.

Here you go folks, don't be shut out. Bid now, Bid high and Bid often!

what was the current bid? 50?

Typical republican double standards. Well, just to offset any bad feelings about the recent election results (hehehe) I'll up the aunte to $60. Ironically, it's because of that election that I feel I can afford doin' this. So just send your president elect and nice thank you letter.

Alright Ted from Chicago!

Ted's bid 60.00 for this fine box with a vintage Craftsman rabbit plane, plenty of metaphors (and after this election-never have enough of those) and a FINE FATMAX level with case!

Now we don't know yet if there's going to be some old FHB mags in that box and not sure either if there's anything Hand Wrought (?) going to be added either.

So, this box isn't sealed yet and neither is the bid.

We've got 60 and lookin for more.

He’s bringing something with him Monday - I'll let you know what.

For those who don't know Tim (you're lucky!)- he’s an amateur blacksmith.
In the past he has made Calvin and Jim Blodget some compass/scribes and brought a couple of “wizard head” bottle openers to Peachfest.

Don’t know what he plans on contributing.

Terry

I need to know if Chuck is a liberal or conservative, so I know how much to charge him.

Obviously I'll also need a mailing address. But I may be able to get that from Chuck via email...

Just checking to see if you have received something from me via Paypal.

RE: auction ending at such and such a time................

I have remitted the amount of my bid to Calvin. It is my desire that the plane and level [and metaphors] and what ever else that may be donated be put up for auction again for the benefit of Quittintime.

Yeah Chuck you devil, rcvd and responded to the email address on the paypal notice. Thanks a heck of a lot for this gesture.

But you are indeed a winner. You are the recipient of whatever the heck TLE's buddy and our friend Tim is making up. From what I remember he had one or two at the fest over at Douds. I will direct Terry to get the operation in motion.

Alright rez, back to you.

But, I believe that I will stick with my decision to let all items donated benefit QT. Thanks for the offer though.I may even win the auction the next time also.

We can't let that stuff go too cheaply. What is the current bid any way?Chuck

Thanks Ray, enjoy the trip.

We've got 20 for the Craftsman Rabbit Plane, the metaphors, that highly useful looks as if it's new, 4-Fatmax Level w/case, and a hand smithed bottle opener I think.

20.00, need more!

Who'll give it?

Make it $35.00.

Tim did make another "Wizard head" bottle opener to throw in the box. Of course, some of the younger crowd may not remember when beer bottles didn't have twist off caps and will need training in the proper use of an opener.

I am unable to post a picture of it - not just because of my poor photography skills, but also my lack of technology skills. I did (I think) manage to finally get an e mail to Calvin that he might be able to decipher.

So, I am at $35 - do we hear $40?

Here's the booty from Tim.
This handsmithed bottle opener is included in the box with the Rabbit Plane and the 4' Fatmax level.

And to review:
The above handsmithed bottle opener is in a box along with this Craftsman Rabbit Plane.

and the Fatmax 4' level w/case.

Of course, expect some of those metaphors for padding.

One bid takes all three (and padding) items.

Don't be bashful, bid now.

and don't be cheap neither.

That Fatmax is brand new, or at least never used, still has the price tags on it.

Thanks James!

We've got 35.00 and looking for 40.00..............

Well, actually we're looking for more than forty, but in keeping with auction tradition we'll creep up.

Or, be a shocker and go way up right now all at once!

You decide.

I know one thing, it would be an insult to the donators at this price we have here.

What say ye?

OK, there's a new guy trying to work his way into the big time Auction over here. And like one of the famed regulars of the past, he throws some cents into the mix.

And if it's one thing we need here its some sense-common sense wouldn't hurt none either.

The NEW BID is 50.01 and he's looking for something else to slip into the BOX along with the CRAFTSMAN RABBIT PLANE, the BRAND spanking NEW 4' FATMAX LEVEL WITH CASE, the very finely HAND SMITHED BOTTLE OPENER from TIM and the ever lovin' METAPHORS.

If we ever do give this box 'o prizes away and someone takes the lot-They are going to be some lucky s.o.b.'s

This PRIZE BOX is HUGE. and getting HUGE-R.

We've got 50.01, who'll go higher? Remember, there's more!

HammerII, you bid 50 aught 1. We've had no increase in the bid. You mentioned looking around for an added item to toss in the box..........anything turn up?

Because, we've got a current bid of 50.01 and are looking to have someone raise it. Maybe if we increased the booty there'd be a little action here.

If not, well......you wouldn't have to incur mailing costs to get it somewhere.

We've got 50.01, HIGHER anyone?

My stomach still hurts from yesterday but I'm heading out to the store for some good bread and pickles for turkey sandwiches.

Alright, we've reached 60.01 thanks to that itinerant boats guy.

And no action for a while since.

So, lets give it one more try here on beefing up the bid.

HammerII may still dump something else in the box, don't know.

So who wants to take up the bid?

Anyone interested?

We can't wait too damn long.

DEADLINE FOR THIS AUCTION=FRIDAY 6pm EST DECEMBER 5th

We've got 60.01 bid for the hand smithed bottle opener made by Tim, the Craftsman Rabbit Plane from Boss Hogg, and the Brand New 4' FATMAX LEVEL W/Case. Included at no extra charge-metaphors.

I'm hoping the extra traffic for the main event over on the back porch might sweeten the pot. I know, I have no honor. But like the Boss knows, you gotta make hay when there's hay to be made.

So Bid Now and until 5PM this coming Friday-Dec 5th.

See above for pictures of this box of goods at auction.

Thanks!

WE HAVE AN AUCTION ENDING AND BOATS IS THE MAN!

Winning bid of 60.01 From BOATS ! , which brings the grand total for the Auction of the bottle opener, the Craftsman Plane and the NEW FATMAX level w/case, along with the metaphors to 135.01 I think.

That's super good, thanks to Boss Hog for starting it out with the Plane donation. And Heck for giving up the FATMAX Level. Tim from Michigan for making a real nice bottle opener (for the imports), IBEW Chuck for bidding, winning in the first round and then turning around and re-donating the box of goods back! and lastly but not leastly-Luka for those damn metaphors.

So, Boats I need your mailing or shipping address so I can pass it along to our prize donators. Email me through here and we'll get the show on the road. You can either pay through paypal or mail a check to:

Quittintime
p.o.box 351
maumee, ohio 43537-0351

And thanks again!
